O.S.T.R. and Voo Voo with Leszek Możdżer on the Zajezdnia stage
On August 24, 2024, the square in front of the Center for Historical Documentation Zajezdnia turned into the musical heart of Wrocław with the concert “This Is Where Wrocław Begins.” The unique event, marking the 44th anniversary of the August strikes, brought together more than 2500 people – residents, artists, and all those longing for music sparkling with history, passion, and community.
After the emotional words of Andrzej Jeri and Jarosław Krauze recalling the events of the past, the artistic part began. O.S.T.R. ignited the audience with his well-known tracks, freestyle rhymes, and stories about the depot and the legendary Jelcz “Ogórek” bus. The rapper’s energy opened hearts for the more reflective moments of the evening.
Then the stage belonged to Voo Voo and Leszek Możdżer. The artists presented a premiere set composed especially for this occasion. With humor, Waglewski admitted that he had not practiced so intensely since the 1970s—just to keep up with Możdżer. His guitar playing was full of lightness and, at the same time, deep bluesy reflection. Each note carried both experience and warmth, something only a master with such a history can share.
Next to him, Michał Bryndal shaped the music with his subtle and precise drumming. A single accent could heighten the emotion, while the next moment he softened the pulse, as if guiding listeners through the very breath of the city.
Mateusz Pospieszalski brought his signature saxophone tone—sometimes edgy, sometimes lyrical, always charged with emotion and drama. His improvisations gave Voo Voo’s music openness and unpredictability.
Completing the sound, Karim Martusewicz’s bass lines pulsed like the heart of the concert. His playing bridged hypnotic, trance-like rhythms with raw rock energy.
Leszek Możdżer became both the binding force and a counterpoint for the band. His piano interwove with the songs’ structure, creating mystical textures and dazzling solo passages. At times, his touch illuminated the music with gentle light; at others, he carried it into cosmic realms, giving the audience the sense of witnessing something extraordinary.
The concert was more than a meeting of musicians. It was an artistic and communal experience—a journey through history and emotion, through blues, folk, and rock landscapes. “This Is Where Wrocław Begins” became a celebration of memory and culture, intertwined with music of the highest order. Voo Voo and Leszek Możdżer created a spectacle that will remain a testament to the power of music to connect past and present, and to unite individual sounds into one shared heartbeat.
